|
|
Do
you sometimes feel like you were thrown into your position? |
|
|
Do
you ever question your roles and responsibilities? |
|
|
Do
you ever wonder if there is an easier way to do your
job? |
|
|
Do
you ever have problems juggling your volunteer position
with your day job and your home life? |
|
|
Do
you know where to turn for answers to your questions?
|
|
|
Would
you like to feel confident that you have the resources
you need to do your job at the absolute highest level? |
|
|
Would
you like to have someone hold your feet to the fire
to ensure that you accomplish all you are capable
of accomplishing?
|
Join
one of the facilitated roundtables for board chairmen now
being offered by NonProfit Management Solutions, Inc. These
roundtables provide a friendly, safe and confidential
environment in which you can meet with other board leaders
– either in person or via conference call – to discuss
issues of concern to you and your organization. Get
feedback from both your peers and a facilitator that’s "been
there and done that."
While
the issues discussed at each session will be based on the
specific needs of the participants, typical examples
include:
| |
Getting
other board members to follow through on their commitments |
| |
Recruiting
a board of affluence and influence |
| |
Developing
a high impact board |
| |
Evaluating
your executive director |
| |
Hiring
or firing an executive director |
| |
Walking
the line between creating the organization’s vision
and micro-managing |
| |
Balancing
mission and money |
| |
Responding
to staff that make an end-run around the executive director,
bringing their problems directly to the board |
| |
Setting
policy |
| |
Defining
the board’s role in the budgetary process |
| |
Looking
at mergers, affiliations and collaborations |
| |
Meeting
your regulatory responsibilities (e.g., Form 990s) |
| |
Building
future volunteer leadership from within the organization |
| |
Determining
if the organization’s good name is for sale |
| |
Dealing
with an all volunteer organization |
| |
Finding
time to do the job you were elected to do and still
have a life
|
The
groups are small – no more than 8 participants –
to allow you time to pursue the issues that keep you awake
at night and to gain the insights of your peers. You’ll
find the sessions are supplemented with worksheets, valuable
resources and more!
They
are facilitated by Dr. Terrie Temkin who has worked in the
nonprofit arena for 30 years. Few people know boards as
well as Terrie. Besides working with 40 – 60 of them a year
she has sat on numerous boards herself, serving as chairman
twice. She even sat in the executive director’s chair! Terrie
is known as the "Ann Landers of the Nonprofit World"
– a title bestowed upon her as the author of the long- running
"On Nonprofits" column in the Miami Herald.
